This is my first ever blog post and I haven’t written anything substantial in paragraph format since I left uni in 2012 so please be kind when reading 🙂
I’m Maddie and I wanted to write a blog to give some background to myself and my artwork.
I did fine art for GSCE and A level and I loved it but I went to do a Zoology degree at University of Sheffield (which was amazing) and fell out of the habit of creating art until I left uni and started working full time. I find being creative outside of my job to be relaxing and satisfying and I try to find time to do it every day. It was only recently that I worked up the courage to share my art with social media and put it out there for sale as, I think most people would agree, self-doubt about your artistic abilities is intimidating at times!
I am and always have been influenced creatively by fantasy and mythology – I read Lord of the Rings, His Dark Materials and as much of Robin Hobb’s works as I could get my hands on at an early age and I played Warcraft, Runescape, Spyro, Tomb Raider, Diablo, Elder Scrolls… the list goes on – if it was fantasy or sci-fi I was all over it. I also loved manga and anime – Pokemon, Sailor Moon and Full Metal Alchemist made me wish I could draw people to that level of skill!
Growing up these influences were reflected in my work in that I almost exclusively drew dragons and manga cat girls until I could get my hands on some decent paints in school and started being pointed towards studying other artists and expanding my portfolio.
Nowadays I try to develop my skills in painting and figure drawing as much as I can and I like to design my own tattoos (I cannot get enough of mandala designs). I post pretty much everything onto instagram and try to keep my shops updated with my most recent designs so if you like what you see, give me a follow and have a look at them!
I will try to use this blog as a way of updating anyone who reads it on whats going on with me and what pieces I’ve been working on recently and if you have any questions for me please leave a comment or send me an email and I can reply in the next post!
Lots of love
