I’ve mentioned in my blog before that I listen to music literally every day of my life so I thought I’d share some of my current music choices on my ‘recently played’ playlist and give a little insight into my music tastes (which are a bit all over the place tbh 😂). If you’re a pop punk fan I’m also going to Slam Dunk South festival this weekend so if you’re going hit me up!! I would love to meet you irl 😎

Hi everyone! If you’ve been reading my posts you will know that I’m in the process of replacing my makeup collection with cruelty-free brands. GOSH is one of my go-to cruelty-free brands now because their products are always in Superdrug and the quality I have found is fairly high so far. Plus the packaging appeals to me so much – it literally makes me want to buy everything in the display cabinet! GOSH and Makeup Revolution packaging is so bold and simplistic and is so irresistible to me!

So I ran out of powder recently and wanted to replace it with a cruelty-free one. I used to use Rimmel’s compressed powder and wanted something similar, so I bought a pot of Mineral Powder from GOSH.

I’ve been using it every day and I am so chuffed with the way it looks! I managed to buy the right colour for my face (for once) and the coverage is GREAT! It smooths out my skin and makes it look really blemish-free. Would definitely recommend this product. The only problem I have (with all mineral powders really) is that they tend to go EVERYWHERE once you have opened them! It’s like they’ve been waiting to explode once you open them and they just get all over your clothes and hair and floor and bed and dressing table… Or is this just me being incapable of using makeup again…?

There was a promotion in Superdrug for buy one GOSH product, get another one half price so OF COURSE I couldn’t resist and bought their Contour’n Strobe Kit which has contour shades, blush and highlight all together in a cute little round palette. This I also love because I never have any luck with contour kits. I swear I am literally a makeup failure because I don’t know how to apply half these products or end up buying the wrong colour for my face! But this one is really straightforward, the colours suit me for once and I am really pleased with it! The highlight comes on a little too strong on my forehead so I learned to tone that down when applying but I actually really love this kit! Both of these were £15 together which I think is pretty good value for powder kits!

If you are looking to start going cruelty-free, a good place to start is crueltyfreekitty or alienontoast – both of which give a good list of brands that are either cruelty-free and/or vegan. The brushes in my photos are from IndyLuxe who are 100% vegan as well and do some super cute affordable makeup brushes. You can use my discount MCADEART20 for 20% off!

Do you use any cruelty-free makeup and can you recommend me any more brands that are affordable and good quality? Let me know in a comment!

Lots of love

As it’s my birthday on Saturday (eeeeekkk!) I thought I would do a post on some of the important things I’ve learned in my soon-to-be 26 years on this planet!

So here goes…

1. Be kind.

2. Stay humble – and always show gratitude.

3. Play to your strengths – if you’re good at something, invest time in it.

4.  Academic performance doesn’t define your intelligence.

5. You are perfectly entitled to feel the way you feel at any time. This was the best advice anyone has ever given me. You can feel any damn way you want and no one can tell you how you ‘should’ feel.

6. Saying that, jealousy, though you are totally allowed to feel it, is destructive. So I’ve learned to turn it into motivation or try to come to terms with the things I can’t change. Someone earns more money that you? Put the work in and work towards a promotion. Your ex has a new girlfriend? They’re not a part of your life anymore so it’s not worth thinking about.

7. Time heals – even if you think it won’t.

8. People present the best versions of themselves on social media – no one’s life is perfect behind closed doors.

9. If you don’t ask you don’t get. Cannot stress this one enough and I live my life by it.

10. Do your research instead of making an impulse buy…

11. But you deserve to treat yourself so if you see something awesome then get it!

12. Keep track of your finances and always make sure you have a financial cushion in case of unexpected emergencies (like another driver doing a 3 point turn in the middle of a 60mph road causing you to steer your car into a ditch to avoid them and then having to pay the excess for your car repairs 🤔)

13. Be tolerant of other people’s opinions. People are sensitive about the things they believe in. Sometimes it’s best to let them get on with it if you don’t agree with them!

14. But also be open to challenges to your own opinions – people can offer valid new information that can make you see things differently.

15. Try to look after yourself – physically and mentally.

16. What do you matters – no matter how small a contribution to a cause or charity….

17. …and also to people. Your words can have far-reaching effects so think before making hurtful or flippant comments (see number 1. Be kind)

18. Friendships can fade if you don’t put the effort in

19. But don’t invest time in someone who doesn’t invest in you.

20. Make time for yourself. Have a bath, read a book, take a walk.. set time aside for yourself once in a while to recharge and look after yourself.

21. Don’t live beyond your means.

22. Challenge stigma and prejudice when you encounter it.

23. Don’t apologise for who you are. You are enough and anyone who doesn’t appreciate you for who you are doesn’t deserve to be part of your life.

24. If you are unhappy with something, make a positive change about it.

25. Other people’s success is not your failure.

26. Do you. Don’t worry about what other people are doing or compare. Just concentrate on yourself and you will feel so much more fulfilled.

A lot of these are personal to me but I hope you can identify with some of them. These are some of the biggest life lessons I’ve learned so far but there are lots more I could have included!

Do you agree with any of these and what have been your biggest life lessons?

I LOVE to play console games and I have done since I was a little kid. I remember my brother and I begged my parents for a PS one when it came out and we would play games using our old TV that had a huge back to it and smelled like burning electricity towards the end of it’s life. My favourites were Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot and I am SO EXCITED they are rebooting Crash Bandicoot soon!

My boyfriend and I have two TVs in our living room and two Xbox Ones so that we can both game at the same time, and then we share a PS4 as we are both more Xbox gamers than Playstation. But The Last Guardian is a PS4 exclusive so I bought it at the start of my week off work a couple of weeks ago and fired up the Playstation ready to spend my whole week playing it! I was honestly so absorbed by this game that I was finished it before I knew it and wanted to write a blog post on how much I enjoyed it!

The Last Guardian is a puzzle action-adventure game where you play as a boy who wakes up covered in strange rune markings and in the presence of a giant bird-dog-cat creature. You have to free the creature (later named Trico) from where he has been chained up and gain his trust so that he can be your companion as you try to find a way out of the place that you’ve found yourself in.

The visuals in this game are AMAZING. Everything is so beautifully rendered and it’s so immersive – There was one point where I started feeling a bit of vertigo because you have to make the boy climb out onto a flimsy structure hanging over huge empty space and I really felt afraid for him! The graphics of Trico are so beautiful as well, his feathers rustle and ruffle around in the breeze and his face is so expressive. They have got the animal mannerisms spot on; Trico looks at you and does that curious head-tilt thing that dogs do when you ask them a question, and his hackles go up when he’s in a confrontation, and then he will leap on enemies like a great big cat.

The game relies heavily on the AI of Trico as you can direct him and give him commands as the game progresses. As you and he spend more time together, the bond gets deeper and the AI responds better to what you want it to do. There were a lot of reviews that found that the AI didn’t work as well as it should have and found it frustrating – It didn’t really affect my gameplay experience too much apart from a few times where Trico went back the way we had come when I was trying to get him to go forward. The main issue I would say I had was the camera which was sometimes a bit all over the place and made it hard to judge jump distances, but this is a minor complaint because I loved the game so much.

The puzzles were challenging to the point where I actually wasted a good part of my life wandering round areas trying to figure out what I had to do! Obviously this was a bit frustrating at times but I really appreciated the way the game didn’t hold your hand and made you work to figure out solutions instead of making them glaringly obvious.

The story unfolds as you progress, with a few flashbacks revealing a big chunk of how you got there, and the bond you have with Trico gets deeper and deeper as you approach the end of the game. By the end I was really invested in Trico and there are a couple of parts where he gets attacked and I genuinely felt protective over him – I love that this game evokes so much emotion from players. You put the controller down after having played this game and you feel like you’ve actually been on that journey and you’ve experienced so many emotions throughout the play-through.

I absolutely recommend this game and will definitely be playing it again. It’s one of the best gaming experiences I’ve had in a long time!

Let me know if you’ve played it and what your opinions are on the AI/camera or in general!

Here’s a little fan art I did of Trico which is up on my instagram here 🙂

Hi everyone! I’ve been a bit lax on the blogging front recently due to the bank holiday weekend just completely sapping my motivation – I had to attend an accountancy course on Saturday and Sunday  and then my motivation just went out the window on Monday and in the evenings!

So I thought I would do a quick post to get me back into the swing of things – 5 things I can’t live without!

Here goes…

  1. MUSIC

I listen to music every single day and I have done since I was at school! Whether it’s the radio or my iPod or my old walkman crammed into my school blazer pocket that was way too small for it I have listened to music every day! My first cassette tape (lol cassette tapes, showing my age here) was Avril Lavigne’s ‘Skater Boy’ and I think my first CD was either Busted’s first album or Ashley Simpson’s ‘Pieces of Me’ single 😂 haha! Nowadays I listen to a lot of pop punk and indie rock, with a lot of other genres mixed in too. Music just sets me up for the day so I always listen to it while I get ready for work and at early morning gym sessions!

I think this goes without saying in this day and age but I definitely couldn’t live without my phone! I remember the days of having to ring up your friends on their home landline and having to arrange a meet-up instead of being able to text… and then my mum would tell me to get off the phone because she wanted to use the dial-up internet that you had to plug into the phone cable 😂😂 ! It’s so convenient to have all the apps and messaging facilities that you could ever need in one place! If you’re a blogger reading this you’ll know that our phones are never out of our hands and we use them for pretty much everything from scheduling posts to editing photos to monitoring followers and blog statistics. Phones are essential nowadays and I can’t wait to see what else they do with them next!

3. TEA

I honestly get through about 10 cups of tea a day at work, no word of a lie! Tea keeps me sane and keeps me productive! I take it with unsweetened soy milk and I definitely recommend trying an alternative to cow’s milk with your tea or coffee if you want to start going cruelty-free! Coffee I’m not such a fan of, I find it so bitter that I have to dump a load of sugar into it which probably isn’t too healthy for me!

4. ART

I try to create artwork as often as possible because I find it so therapeutic and rewarding. I just zone out completely when I’m working on a piece until it’s finished and it’s so nice to allocate that bit of time to myself and create something that I’m proud of. You can find all of my artwork on my instagram @mcadeart and I’m working towards setting up a YouTube channel for timelapse videos of my process and also an etsy shop to sell prints. In the meantime, you can buy my designs on my redbubble shop http://Www.redbubble.com/people/maddiecade ☺️

My boyfriend and best friends are so supportive of me and everything I create, be it blog content or art, and I am so grateful to them. They give me praise tempered with constructive criticism and keep me grounded while encouraging me to do more and be the best I can be. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my short time being a blogger, it’s stay humble. Everyone started from somewhere and it’s so nice to interact with other bloggers who create quality content and provide support and take the time to help smaller bloggers.

Thanks for reading! Let me know what things you can’t live without and if they are similar to mine!
